Employment Services

Helping Bristol County Work

Throughout the Greater Fall River, Massachusetts area, people are working.

The Vocational Division of People, Incorporated recognizes the uniqueness of every individual and group employment situation. We work closely with everyone involved to ensure successful and meaningful work experiences. Training is based on individual needs and interests.

Employees of the program work at developing new work and social skills, increasing work tolerance, and exploring career opportunities. Choices in programming include skill training in a workshop setting, community/social experience, exploring volunteer work, supported employment and job placement.

Work Program Services (Troy Productions) are offered at 900 Riggenbach Road in the Industrial Park of Fall River, Massachusetts. Sub- contract work from local companies is procured to provide training and employment to those individuals who seek to improve their work and social skills in a supervised setting. Within this setting, clinical, therapeutic, educational, volunteer and career services can also be explored.

Volunteer placement provides an opportunity for a trainee to:

* Explore career interests and opportunities
* Gain work experience by trying jobs in the community
* Develop self-confidence and social skills
* Network in the community and develop new friends
* Obtain community job references based on volunteer experience

Supported Employment is available to any individual in the program who is capable of meeting the host company's requirements and standards. The trainee's preferences and interests are considered in job assignments. Here the focus is on paid work and gaining community experience. Work opportunities can be full or part time. On-going support is provided by a job coach who will work alongside the trainee as they learn to perform the task. Support services such as transportation and work adjustment counseling are also provided as needed. Trainees have the opportunity to interact with company employees and to develop friendships.

Job Placement Services assist the individual in the program to identify career interests and obtain competitive employment. The process involves comparing an individual's interests and abilities to the aspects and requirements of a job in their community. Employment may be either full or part time, depending on the individual's stated needs.

Community/Social Experience is offered to individuals as an opportunity to explore the community as a valued member. By working together, the Vocational Services Division and the Recreation and Leisure Services Division promote and assist with the attainment of social skills and community awareness.
