President's Message

I would like to welcome you to our web site and hope that you find your visit provides you with a better understanding of our agency. We are extremely proud of our history and our ability to provide quality services throughout the greater Fall River area.

People, Incorporated began the provision of services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in 1968. Since its inception it has been the largest provider of supports and services to this population in the area. Initially formed by a group of community leaders and family members we have remained true to our mission and have continued to expand the variety of services necessary to help individuals with developmental disabilities increase their participation in the community.

Today, we have almost 300 employees and provide 10 million dollars of services annually. We have a dedicated Board of Directors, a creative and innovative team of senior administrators and caring, competent direct care staff. We provide a wide array of service models and are continuing to expand the services that we provide as well as the populations that we will provide them to. Recently we revised our mission statement to include an emerging desire to work with other at risk populations that have remained underserved in our community. We have implemented a strategic planning process to drive the agency forward and redesigned our organization to improve our effectiveness. This past year has been the most successful year in the history of the agency and we remain dedicated toward continual improvement. The individuals and families that we support deserve nothing less!

I am proud to be a part of this organization and excited about our future. As an agency we have made a commitment to make an even stronger impact on our community. We intend to create more programs that increase employment opportunities for those persons in our community that have had difficulty accessing quality jobs. We intend to provide a wider array of residential options for individuals so that regardless of any changing needs we may be able to continue our involvement in their lives. We plan to increase the level of supports we provide to family members so that they will be better able to maintain and improve family stability. We intend to increase partnerships with other providers and funding sources to strengthen the supports we can make available. It is an ambitious endeavor and I have no doubt that we will be successful.

At the core of our agency value system is the belief that those persons that need and benefit from the services we provide deserve the highest level of quality supports that we can provide in an environment that creates positive partnerships between our agency and the community. We will strive to work more closely with the business, educational and social structures within our community to advance the mission of our agency and help those persons we work with work, live and play as fully as possible in our community.

Robert Canuel
President and CEO
